iLIFE welcomed Wisconsin State Senator Chris Larson to its Glendale office September 24 for the “Take Your Legislator to Work” campaign.
Larson toured the facility, met iLIFE staff, and talked with an iLIFE worker with a disability about community-integrated opportunities.
“It’s important to us to get a frontline view of what’s happening in a person’s workplace,” said Larson.
The goal of the initiative is to show how community-integrated jobs can help people with disabilities enter the workforce and benefit both businesses and the economy.
“The entire visit was wonderful,” said Martha Chambers, iLIFE participant engagement specialist.
Chambers, who is paralyzed, organized the event.
“It couldn’t have gone any better,” Chambers said.
The event at iLIFE is one of many occurring across the country this fall. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
“If you have legislators that are seeing that, and are walking in the shoes of their constituents, that’s going to pay off,” Larson said.
